Our first Newspapers CSP is the Daily Mirror.

 1) Write the definition of the following key language for newspaper front pages (you may want to add an example for each from our Daily Mirror CSP):


Masthead: Example of a 'red top' tabloid to stand out also uses sans serif= modern? 'o' in mirror references climate change splash head.  

Pug: 'soft news' due top sport features. Free pull out=entices apple to WC TC (working class) (target audience).

Splash Head: dominate newspaper front cover, most important news story that example of 'hard news'. 

Slogan: emotive language, serious issues in paper, unites a working class audience such as using 'our collective pronouns'. Also related to splash head.

Dateline: Sans serif -verbal code.  

Kicker: Evokes on emotional response due to image of award winners audience feel sympathetic ? 'POB' reinforces DM is a national tabloid.

2) How much does a copy of the Daily Mirror cost? (Note: the current cost is different to the CSP edition - we recommend learning both).

-The daily mirror costs 55p

3) What are the main stories on the CSP edition of the Daily Mirror (see above)? Make sure you learn the headline and what the stories are about.

-Global warming and how its affecting different parts of the earth.

4) Why is the choice of news stories and content on the Mirror CSP front page typical of a tabloid newspaper?

-Tabloid news papers usually record on would wide important events so it makes sense for the daily mirror to include such content.

5) What is the balance on the Daily Mirror front page between images, headlines and text?

-bottom half is very serious and negative while the top half if more casual and positive.

Representations

1) What political party does the Daily Mirror support? Is there any evidence to support this in the CSP pages we have studied?

-The political party the daily mirror 

2) How does the Daily Mirror Pride of Britain Awards represent ordinary British people?



3) How is climate change as an issue represented in the Daily Mirror? What evidence can you provide from the CSP pages to support this?

-My point is supported through how the bottom half of the front cover shows a man suffering from the effect of climate change.

4) How are environmental protesters like Greta Thunberg represented in the Daily Mirror? Look at the inside pages to answer this.

-Greta Thunberg is shown in this paper to be a high standing/important figure in this mater of  discussion about climate change.

5) How are different countries and political leaders represented in the Daily Mirror? Does this reinforce or subvert the stereotypes we usually see in the media?
